Environmental factors do play a role in longevity, but a more significant factor is the individuals genetic makeup.
And rats and humans are quite similar. We share most all the same organ systems, and really only vary in structural forms.
You have a good point until you started talking about how they get good care. They do have clean facilities BUT the point is they are still being tested on with experiments that could easily kill them. Although this procedure was far far far from the worst, I’m upset at the entire Idea of animal testing. And also I would like to add that the only reason I’m “making to much” of this situation is because animals rely on others to be their voice. This is how I feel, but I respect your opinion.
I have rats as pets, and don’t see any problem with legitimate testing on them. The testing in the video seems to be a legitimate study. Most all credible researchers have to follow strict laws on the treatment and husbandry of test animals. You really seem to be making too much of this video and this example of animal testing.
Animals bred for research are kept and treated infinitely better than most all domestic food animals (cows, chickens, pigs,…) which are bred on a vastly larger scale.
Actually as a pet rat owner, they are fairly comparable to having a pet dog. So it’s not a stretch to compare them. But as for animal testing on them, with the strict laws we have now, most animals, if the facility is inspected, are kept in very good conditions, and the information gained from testing on them is, to me, worth it. I don’t have much problem with it, as long as they are treated moderately well. Fuck, I’ve seen pet shops that have them in squalid conditions, as their not regulated.
Excuse me? Are you trying to say rats aren’t companions, loving, mammals, covered in fur, have different breeds, can be trained, can be cared for, are domestic and so on? And just to Q you in on things, yes it IS torture because these things are unnecessary and involuntary.
Tests with no benefit as so call “experiments” have no right to be followed through on animals.
